Wine of the week from the week of this wine’s release no less!

Boekenhoutskloof’s wines don’t get much better than this! As you may have noticed, I like the wines from these guys, and yes, I used to sell them in the shop… my wine buying for the last 5 years has been more than a little skewed towrds those stocked by Oddbins for obvious reasons, but hey – they’ve got one of the best ranges out there, so I could have done a lot worse!
Since visiting the winemaker Marc Kent up at the winery in Franschhoek a couple of years ago, their wines have been favourite amongst the rest of my family too…
This was a bottle that my brother picked up this week for my Birthday, we were down at the rather exclusive wine merchants ‘Carolines’ in the Waterfront in Cape Town and heard about the new release coming in soon, so he put himself down for 3…
Well we decided not to wait til today to open it, and it didn’t dissapoint… it’s a Cape monster! with gobfuls of ripe plum fruit and large round tannins – soft enough to sit nicely with yet more prime Karoo steak despite it’s relatively youth…
The finish was not quite as enduring as I thought it might be, but there might be an aspect of bottle shock there, as it is such a recent release…
“In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can buy… The Boekenhoutskloof Syrah 2005!”
as rare as the A-Team…but maybe try SAwinesonline and ask for the new vintage
