Thokozani Shiraz Mouvedre 2006

Firstly, apologies for the lack of ‘wine of the week’ for a wee while, things have been pretty hectic in the Cape! So here is the first in a series of catch ups… this was my WOTW for my first week in Cape Town:

Thokozani

Thokozani Shiraz Mouvedre 2006

My reasons for choosing this wine, in the week I visited WineX, where there were a reputed 1500 different wines on show, is not only because this wine is a cracker, offering great value for money (R59 in SA, and likely to go for £6+ when it reaches the UK) but also because it captures the style that I feel the warmer climate of Wellington is best at doing… an unfussy big wine – plenty of ripe appealing berry fruit, with smoky depth and good balance.

This is not perhaps a medal winner, but as a mid priced barbeque wine – it’s great, and on top of all this, theres the warm feeling of knowing that Thokozani is Fairtrade (accreditation pending…)

Responses

  1. Where can I find this wine in BELGIUM.
In preference near or in Antwerp.

  2. Hi stoks,

The Belgian importer for Dimersfontein (Thokozani’s parent company) is
    Schenk (www.schenk.be)
    SCHENK NV – SA
    375 Chaussée de Tervuren
    B – 1410 Waterloo (Brussels)

    Tél : +32 2 352 04 20
    Fax : +32 2 351 12 48

I’m afraid they’re based in Brussels rather than Antwerp, but they are a distributor, so they may supply to a wine store near you!

I can’t guarantee that they supply the Thokozani range just yet, but if you get in touch they might be convinced to.

    Hope this is helpful.

    Alex
